During the Great War of 1914-1918 more than 330,000 men and women of the Australian Imperial Force served abroad. From Gallipoli to the Western Front men of the A.I.F. served with courage and distinction - as foot soldiers, Light Horsemen and in the Australian Flying Corps, while women service predominately in the Australian Army Nursing Service. Some 61,720 Australian lost their lives and 155,000 suffered physical wounds. Of those who returned home many carried the mental scars of war to their graves. In the centenary of the Great War we honour their service and remember their sacrifice.
