There’s something about the musical extravaganzas of yesteryear that today’s kids find captivating. Musicals that delighted their parents and grandparents — shows like The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, The Wizard of Oz, Oliver, Grease and Fiddler on the Roof — are as popular as ever with today’s worldly-wise kids. Perhaps it’s something about the incredible energy and optimism these shows contain, but they’re guaranteed to keep children entertained for hours, and to have them singing along to the songs for weeks afterwards.
Given this remarkable popularity, ABC for Kids decided it was time to gather together the most popular songs from the musicals of the past half-century or so, making them readily available to today’s Discman generation.
